GIS Lounge has a fascinating post that talks of research undertaken at TelAviv University and the University of California, Los Angeles, which has created a method for more precisely pinpointing the geographic origin of a person's ancestry, by developing an understanding of the spatial diversity of genes.

LiDAR News has a piece on the In-Location Alliance, which looks to use Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi to get indoor navigation to work. Companies like Broadcom, Nokia, Sony Mobile, Samsung, and Qualcomm are already on board.

Nathan’s QGIS blog has posted about his (and Chris Scott’s) recent creation of the Australian QGIS User Group. If you’re a QGIS user (and in Australia), be sure to check it out.

Google Maps Mania has a link to a map that displays the daily satellite images of the Arctic captured by NASA. You can select any day to view, and gives you other interesting overlays, and even an option to view daily satellite images from other places in the world.

Gary’s Bloggage has a post (and two images) of a giant, 12x5m, map of the world created from around a million blocks of LEGO. And I never even completed my LEGO pirate ship…

Planet Geospatial has a post entitled ‘3 signs you have the wrong coordinate system.’ A handy little reference for any Esri users that may be a little unsure of their data.
