I heart maps

The lovers in the audience will undoubtedly be aware that last Saturday was Valentine’s Day. The geography lovers in the audience will be pleased to know that romance and geography go hand in hand, thanks to this round up of heart-shaped geographical features over at GIS Lounge.

More of a rockin’ geographer? Then check out this great round up of record covers on Google Street View from Maps Mania.

While I’m potentially pushing this joke too far, if you’re a cheesy geography lover, then these maps of the world’s cheeses by the Huffington Post should be right up your alley.

LiDAR News brings us the …news… that self-driving pods and buses have made their way to Milton Keynes. The video linked on the LiDAR news site isn’t as good as this one from the Financial Times, though, so go check it out.

The BBC talks of the use of drones in finding evidence of and studying the lost Amazonian civilisation. Is there nothing that these robots can’t do (oh yes, make deliveries…).

Geoawesomeness talks of a method that uses radar to accurately map the extent of floods.

And, finally, Maps Mania has a post announcing CartoDB’s new animated heat maps capabilities. Neat.
