The 2012 conference will be held in Brisbane from the 16th to the 18th of April at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The program format will consist of keynote addresses, concurrent sessions and workshops. There will be over 50 presentations.

It is a joint initiative of the Australian Institute of Emergency Services, the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association Inc and the Association for Sustainability in Business Inc. Each association is a Non-Government, Not for Profit, Member Based organisation.

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) released a National Strategy for Disaster Resilience in February 2011. It agreed to adopt "a whole-of-nation resilience-based approach to disaster management, which recognises that a national, coordinated and cooperative effort is needed to enhance Australia’s capacity to withstand and recover from emergencies and disasters"

Recent studies confirm that the many sectors involved in effective disaster management must continue to work together to improve outcomes. This conference will bring together experts from many fields who will discuss and share their learnings regarding disasters, both recent and past. They will also discuss how we can enhance our nation’s capacity to withstand and recover from them in the future.
