Australian Intelligent Transport Systems Summit

ITS Taiwan Vice President, and National Taiwan University Professor, Jason Chang will be a key note speaker at the 2013 Australian ITS Summit.

Australia will welcome international experts working at the leading edge of Intelligent Transport Systems to speak at the ITS Summit to be held at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney from 18 to 20 September 2013.

The international input will add value to progress the Summit’s key objective to formulate a national vision for ITS in Australia. ITS Australia Chief Executive Officer Susan Harris the aim is to define a plan with a core set of transport priorities broadly acknowledged across all government jurisdictions, which are actively supported by both the research community and the private sector.

“Building on previous national Summits, the 2013 event will focus on the National ITS Action Agenda plus update the current status of ITS in Australia and debate the challenges facing the ITS industry in the current challenging climate,” said Susan Harris.

Among the keynote speakers presenting at the Summit will be:

  • Dr Peter Sweatman, ITS America Board Chair and Director of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, which is conducting the world’s largest V2V safety technology trial, with 3000 vehicles deployed in Ann Arbor. In January 2010 he was appointed to the US Department of Transportation ITS Advisory Committee.
  • Martin Matthews, New Zealand Ministry of Transport Chief Executive. He will update delegates on New Zealand transport policy as it impacts ITS and review the nation’s latest ITS developments.
  • Hajime Amano, ITS Japan President and CEO. He will provide an overview of ITS trends in Japan’s sophisticated transport network and provide a preview of the 2013 ITS World Congress in Japan.
  • Prof SK Jason Chang, Professor, National Taiwan University and ITS Taiwan Vice President. Prof Chang will highlight the next stage of Taiwan’s ITS Plan, which incorporates the telematics industry and review Taiwan ITS developments, including smart card ticketing systems, advanced public transport, travel information services and traffic management systems.
  • Dr Reinhard Pfliegl, ITS Vienna 2012 and 19th ITS World Congress, AustriaTech Chair. As the Chair of the most recent ITS World Congress, Dr Pfliegl will be ideally placed to update delegates on the latest developments in Europe from both the technology and policy perspectives.
  • Craig Moran, General Manager Traffic Management, New South Wales Department of Roads and Maritime Services. Craig Moran will outline important new projects to make the states roads safer and more user friendly, including the Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems Initiative for heavy vehicles involving establishment of test bed infrastructure on a busy freight route.

 

In addition to the two day speakers program, the Australian ITS Summit offers a tour program of innovative projects and an exhibition featuring new ITS products and services. The social program includes a welcome reception at the Sydney Opera House and a gala dinner at the glamorous Waterfront venue overlooking Sydney Harbour.
