The Australian Bureau of Statistics has announced the beta release of its ABS Map Gallery online platform.

According to the Bureau, the ABS Map Gallery is a geospatial discovery tool that provides a single, topic-based gateway to ABS interactive maps.

Although the Gallery itself is new, it brings together existing ABS interactive maps and spatial products that have already been published and made available to the public through the ABS website. For many users, this will be their first introduction to the Gallery as a single entry point for discovering ABS geospatial content.

It unites key demographic, social, and economic insights from across the country, and presents them in a clear and accessible visual format to provide an evidence‑based understanding of communities across Australia.

According to the ABS, the Gallery has been developed over the past six months as a proof of concept. The objective was to test user interest in a centralised geospatial discovery experience while also improving visibility of the interactive mapping products being developed and published across the ABS.

The current beta release version is available for desktop and tablet devices.
