Report from Ross Johnson, SSSI NSW Committee Member.

I attended the “apps4nsw unlocked” workshop last Wednesday afternoon, 21 August 2013 convened by the NSW Department of Finance & Services at the McKell building in Sydney CBD.  Around 60 participants were involved.

The following NSW Government agencies pitched ideas for use of their data in smartphone apps:

  • Australian Museum;
  • NSW Dept of Planning & Infrastructure;
  • NSW Dept of Family & Community Services; and
  • NSW Office of Ageing.

We were broken into small groups which each workshopped/discussed the ideas for apps put forward by each of the NSW Government agencies represented. These were collated and scored to a ranking system at the end of the end. The session was also recorded and a video will soon be made available.

It was a really productive afternoon, and great to see lots of enthusiasm and energy in the room for open data. Wayne Patterson (SSSI Committee Member) and Jose Diacono (ex. SSSI Committee Member) also attended.
