Aerodata capturing Australia with new cameras

By on 14 September, 2010

Aerodata International Surveys will soon begin offering images from its VisionMap A3 digital aerial survey camera in Australia.

The firm has recently acquired two VisionMap A3 digital cameras capable of capturing high-resolution imagery over very large areas from high altitude in a short time.

The A3 camera module consists of two lenses, a motor unit, and a mounting frame. The lenses sweep simultaneously on the camera axis across the flight direction, creating a 100-degree field of view. During one sweep, each lens captures up to 29 frames.

The sweeping motion of the camera during image capture and exposure is aided by a motion compensation mechanism, which corrects forward motion, sweep motion, and general vibrations of the aircraft.

Aerodata has recently photographed the whole city of London in one day with the camera, and believes Australia is a perfect candidate for the technology due to its large size.

The cameras will be used to capture imagery from one of seven operational aircraft owned by the firm.

The technology will be on display at the upcoming 15th Australian Photogrammetric and Remote Sensing Convention in Alice Springs from 13/17/2010.
