4 September: RFT2013-NGL-8-D-5; Near-Surface Seismic Acquisition System; CSIRO. The CSIRO is seeking tenders. The science research requirements:  System electronics must be able to support seismic data acquisition on approximately 400 channels simultaneously at 1ms for at least 48 hours; and must have sufficient channel memory to support seismic data acquisition on approximately 400 channels simultaneously at 1ms for at least 48 hours

The equipment comprises the following components:

  • a sufficient number of  24-channel seismographs (approximately 400 channels), each unit having two built-in high-speed connections to interface with other seismograph and a PC-compatible controller;
  • a seismic acquisition suite capable of conducting 2D and 3D seismic surveys, geophones/lines tests, real-time noise monitoring, and continuous data recording with an appropriate file structure (e.g., overlapping records);
  • an appropriate acquisition computer to run seismic acquisition suite with sufficient memory (e.g., 64GB), disk space (e.g., >2TB) and an external monitor for visual QC;
  • a sufficient number of 24-channel, wound wire geophone cables at 10m spacing (approximately 400 channels) with 10m lead-ins, and 20 hasps for storage ease;
  • Approximately 400 individual 14Hz, 395  vertical element, 70% damped geophones with a 3” spike and 1m cable lead-ins;
  • 17 x 250m digital interface cables with kink- and abrasion-resistant jacketing to connect Seismographs
  • a sufficient number of Line Tap Units (e.g. 5) and interface cables to merge separate line data streams into single stream
  • a sufficient number of modular storage units each containing the equipment required for a 48-channel survey;
  • sufficient channel memory for simultaneous approximately 400-channel seismic data acquisition at 1ms; and
  •  a trigger cabling solution capable of detonating seismic sources at 200m.

The procurement requirements have been developed by the stakeholder group, including the scientific and technical leads on the project.
