More states are publishing regularly updated maps of locations where positive detections of H5 bird flu have been made.
Tasmania has become the latest state to make available online, an interactive dashboard showing where positive detections have been made of H5 bird flu (as well as places where negative results have been returned).
The dashboard shows the number of tests, the number of positive events and the overall number of reports.
The interactive map does not identify individual properties where positive detections have been made, for privacy reasons, but it does show the locations.
The map is updated in real time, and reflects all detections made over the previous 14 days.
As Spatial Source reported last month, Western Australia also has instituted an online dashboard.
“The central bird flu website will help ensure poultry producers, veterinarians, wildlife carers and the community can access the latest information and practical advice in one place,” the Western Australia Agriculture and Food Minister, Jackie Jarvis, said at the time.
South Australia also has an interactive bird flu map, as does Victoria. A national map can be seen here.
According to the federal Department of Agriculture, as of 4:00pm on 25 September, there had been 652 confirmed bird flu ‘events’ across the nation:
- 319 in South Australia
- 208 in Victoria
- 67 in New South Wales
- 45 in Tasmania
- 10 in Western Australia
- 2 in Queensland
- 1 in the Jervis Bay Territory
So far there have not been any event detections in the Australian Capital Territory or the Northern Territory. An event is defined as a discrete detection in one or more animals.
The Greater Crested Tern is, so far, by far the most-affected animal… or at least, the one in which the most detections have been made.
