Tasmanian 2023 geospatial award winners announced

The Geospatial Council of Australias 2023 Tasmanian Geospatial Conference was held at the Crowne Plaza in Hobart on 1 September 2023, where delegates heard the latest news from across the local geospatial industry, including presentations on cadastral surveying, GIS, education and more.

The event concluded with the presentation ceremony for Tasmanian winners of the Geospatial Excellence Awards.

The Awards, formerly the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards, are presented once per year on a state/territory basis, with the winners going into the running for the prestigious Oceanic awards, the winners of which will be announced at the Locate Conference in Sydney in May 2024.

The ceremony was MCed by Kristy Petroff and the awards were presented by C.R. Kennedy’s Peter Madsen.

This year’s winners are:

  • Environment and Sustainability Award — Department of Natural Resources and Environment for its Early Fire Detection and Notification System.
  • Geospatial Enablement Award — Veris and the City of Hobart for the Hobart Rivulet Digital Twin project.
  • Technical Excellence Award — Veris for its North-West Coast Underwater Bridge Inspections project.
  • Undergraduate Student Award — Jordan Rattle, University of Tasmania.
  • Professional of the Year Award — Josh Hawkins, Spatial Information Specialist at Hydro Tasmania.
