UAV service provider DroneDeploy has publicly released MapEngine, its cloud-based photogrammetry service.

After a considerable beta testing phase in which DroneDeploy claims its new MapEngine photogrammetry cloud service processed over 30,000 maps per month for over 4,000 customers, the service has been formally released to the public.

Whilst the firm refers to MapEngine as ‘the world’s first machine learning-powered photogrammetry engine built for industry’, it is unclear how exactly their offering differs from similar platforms that leverage machine learning techniques to provide services such as automated feature recognition.

Nonetheless, the latest release is claimed to generate maps and models 30 to 50 percent more rapidly than earlier versions, render maps composed of up to 10,000 images with improved accuracy, and supports mobile upload of imagery.

DroneDeploy is offering a free trial of 14 days and up to 10 maps or models if you’d like to see how the service stacks up. Southern Cross Drones distribute DroneDeploy products in Australia.
