Discussions have now begun towards a full merger of both the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) and the Geospatial Information & Technology Association ANZ (GITA ANZ). In 2014, SIBA and the Surveying & Spatial Science Institute (SSSI) extended an invitation to GITA ANZ to join the organising committee for the Locate15 Conference, further building the relationship between the organisations. With interest from the Board and members of GITA ANZ, SIBA has been working with the organisation to form a potential merger that ensures maximised membership benefits and brings the vision of a unified industry organisation to fruition.

SIBA claims that the merger will bring economies of scale and consolidated membership value whilst leveraging off the close alignments and objectives of the two associations, and that members of both associations will be able to take advantage of relationships that will now be formed through the broadening of the membership base and increase in member numbers.
