YellowScan launches real-time UAV LiDAR platform

By on 8 February, 2017

Yellowscan has just announced the launch of the YellowScan LiveStation, enabling surveyors to monitor in real time the validity and quality of the data collected from UAV-mounted LiDAR. Combined with one of YellowScan’s lightweight LiDAR sensors aboard an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV, or drone), the new platform is able to ensure that the survey is going smoothly and the point cloud data collected will be reliable and accurate.

Designed by surveyors for surveyors, YellowScan LiveStation offers visualisation and analytics designed for complex and long endurance flight operations. LiveStation renders a real-time, three-dimensional representation of the point cloud during flight, with ability to zoom, translate or rotate.

Simultaneously, the user interface presents an immediate summary of the system’s status and offers the user to view and monitor:

  • Live 3D point cloud visualisation (including zooming, translation, rotation)
  • Live transect and trajectory visualisation
  • Speed, altitude, IMU & GNSS controls
  • Mission replay

LiveStation provides system operators with the real-time information needed to ensure a smooth data acquisition. For example, the transect view easily allows the operator to check in real-time whether the LiDAR is able to penetrate a forest’s canopy and sample its ground. Missions can also later be replayed for analysing flight conditions and data.

The French hardware and software provider YellowScan are among the first company to delve into RPAS-mounted LiDAR for professional applications. The YellowScan Mapper and YellowScan Surveyor are lightweight LiDAR sensors designed specifically for capturing high quality data using unmanned technologies.
