The World of Drones Congress touches down at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from August 8-10, with the Asia-Pacific’s biggest UAV event promising a packed program.
Following the inaugural 2017 congress, the World of Drones organisers are anticipating a greater attendance than their 630 delegates and are excited about a full complement of 50 exhibitors, and a diverse program bringing together drone innovators, educators, manufacturers and researchers.
Convenor Dr. Catherine Ball said that Australia has a storied history of leadership in the UAV space that represents a global advantage.
“Now is the time for Australia to act and capitalise on the new applications of drones — while Australia was the first country to start legislating for drones, we must continue to adapt to ensure we stay ahead of the curve,” she said. “We have the potential to become a key global player in drones and the Congress is the perfect opportunity to cement our leadership in the industry.”
Confirmed speakers include technologist Professor Genevieve Bell; Australian financial commentator Alan Kohler; the World Food Programme’s Haidar Baqir; Smart Cities Council (Australia and New Zealand) executive director Adam Beck; Virgin Start Up head of development Ian Mason; and Australian Centre for Robotic Vision chief operating officer, Dr. Sue Keay.
The organisers say that this year’s event ‘will focus on the burgeoning commercial applications of drones, including planning smart cities, training, agriculture, health and humanitarian needs, plus drone laws and regulation and jobs of the future.’
Chinese UAV company TXA are touted to launch a new drone for crop scanning and treatment at the 2018 Congress.
The event will also host the National Drone Safety Forum, in its second year, and will launch the Defence Industry Forum, a sub-event to explore the latest drone applications for research, reconnaissance and emergency response.
