A new knowledge sharing website has been launched for the GIS Community.
Wiki.GIS.com is a community-generated, GIS-centric encyclopedia that serves as a repository for factual, unbiased GIS content.
Anyone who has any knowledge of GIS is encouraged to create an account and start sharing information and collaborating with the GIS community to expand upon the information that is already within the wiki.
ArcGIS software, cartography, mathematics, surveying, remote sensing, and many other topics are covered as well as biographies of famous figures in the field.
The creators hope educators will use the site to get students involved in writing about GIS concepts and collaborating to expand on current content and pages.
Esri launched the site to provide a resource that would get the GIS community involved in the ongoing process of creating and collaborating on articles about GIS topics and concepts. A team from the company maintains the site.
The site will feature a new map every week. The team is currently working on creating a map library within the site where every map submitted can be displayed for all users to view.
