Western Australia’s land information authority, Landgate, has awarded Jacobs the prime contract for the development of a spatial digital twin as part of the ambitious Spatial WA project.
The initial seven-year delivery contract will see Jacobs partner with Amristar and Terria.
The $140 million Spatial WA project is a whole-of-government effort that involves 30 agencies and ultimately aims to produce an advanced, spatially accurate 4D virtual representation of the built and natural environment.
As part of the initial effort, the digital twin will be used to demonstrate effectiveness across four key use cases — infrastructure delivery, planning, land management and emergency preparedness.
The end goal is to produce an Advanced Spatial Digital Twin that will comprise two technology platforms:
- A Next Generation Spatial Cadastre, which will provide the technology to uplift the state’s current 2D spatial cadastre to maintain property rights, restrictions and responsibilities in 3D/4D across government.
- A Spatial Digital Twin, which will provide a digital, spatially accurate representation of the built and natural environment with the capability to share, discover, visualise and analyse data about a place at a specific time.
Jacobs will lead project management and end-to-end delivery of the spatial digital twin, and will contribute integrated geospatial, enterprise architecture and advanced analytics capabilities to the project.
Amristar will provide cloud and integration architecture, digital workflow, platform interoperability and cloud services management capabilities.
Terria will deliver the technology to integrate and visualise diverse spatial and non-spatial datasets in an accessible, web-based platform.
“The spatial digital twin is more than a technology solution; it is a catalyst for change that will help shape a more connected, informed and resilient Western Australia,” said Adrian Day, Jacobs’ Vice President Digital Advisory, Development & Transformation, Digital & Data.
“At Terria, our mission is to make complex information from transport, environment, planning and infrastructure teams accessible and easy to use,” added Terria’s CEO, Ana Belgun.
“By investing in this capability now, WA is showing real foresight — creating a platform that not only addresses today’s needs but also gives agencies and communities the tools to plan smarter and build a more resilient future.”
