The Institution of Surveyors New South Wales has been given the go-ahead to commence migration skills assessments for surveyors.

The comes after the ISNSW was finally officially listed on the Federal Register of Legislation as the new assessing authority for the Surveyor occupation (ANZSCO 232212).

Spatial Source readers will recall that the industry body had been officially appointed as the new migration skills assessing authority in October last year.

But it couldn’t begin undertaking assessments until the legislative instrument within the Migration Regulations 1994 was updated, which is what has now been done.

This marks the completion of the final regulatory step required for ISNSW to commence its role under the Australian Government’s skilled migration program.

In a statement, the organisation said the appointment “restores a clear and stable pathway for surveyors seeking migration to Australia, following a period of uncertainty within the profession”.

As the new designated assessing authority, ISNSW is responsible for evaluating whether prospective migrants have the qualifications and professional experience to meet Australian occupational standards.

To that end, it has established what it says is a robust assessment framework to ensure a rigorous, fair and transparent process.

Updated guidance materials are available on the ISNSW website, including eligibility information, submission instructions and frequently asked questions.

Applicants are being encouraged to review these resources carefully before submitting their skills assessment application.

Priority processing is available to support applicants with urgent visa deadlines.

In its statement, ISNSW said that “This development represents an important step forward for the surveying profession and for skilled migration processes more broadly”.

“ISNSW looks forward to delivering a fair, transparent, and applicant-focused assessment service that upholds the high professional standards of the surveying community.”
