The team at Spatial Source and Position magazine is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicola Scarf as the new National Sales Manager, who will replace Troy Hale in the role.

Troy Hale has helped Spatial Source and Position magazine to share news, analysis and the latest in surveying spatial information related technologies to Australasia and beyond.  His valuable experience will be sorely missed. The staff at Spatial Source and Position magazine wish the best to Troy in the future.

In the role of National Sales Manager, Nicola Scarf will complement the team by adding her technical understanding of GIS and remote sensing technologies to Journalist Anthony Wallace’s background in surveying and spatial sciences.

Nicola’s interest in GIS started during her second year at UNSW where she completed a Bachelor of Science (Geology and Spatial Information Systems) when she expanded her degree to include a second major after realising the extent of GIS applications to a number of industries.

With the increased automation of jobs predicted over the next 10 years, she sees the spatial information industry as being flexible and creative enough to have ongoing relevance to whichever directions society and technology take. Nicola has personal interests in natural disaster management and hydrology modelling, as well as the growing open source movement within the spatial information sector.

During the 2015 GeoNext conference, Nicola participated in a panel discussion on inter-generational workplaces representing recent graduates trying to enter industry and the challenges and expectations involved: “I was lucky enough to be involved in the GeoNext conference and gained a lot of insight into the industry. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work at Position alongside people and technology that I find fascinating.”
