Only 11% of Australia’s landmass can be referenced through street addressing. However, classic addressing doesn’t always help when receiving a delivery in a unit block, the loading dock in a business park, a festival campground, or when directing the drone to your back yard, but not into the pool.

In the last few years, several initiatives have emerged that tackle this issue, usually with some type of coding system to replace coordinates.

The upcoming Home Delivery Asia Pacific conference will feature a session by Maurits van der Vlugt, Mercury Project Solutions, who credits what3words as the more well-known example of such solutions. Delegates will learn about the pros and cons of innovative addressing solutions, and how they deliver significant economic and social benefits.

what3words uses unique three word combinations to map every location in the world on a 3m x 3m grid, enabling simpler navigation wherever it is needed.

The Home Delivery Asia Pacific conference program will be the first conference in the region to address the shift to on demand retail services and will take place in Melbourne on 16 November at the Automotive Centre of Excellence in Melbourne.

Foundation sponsor HERE’s Brent Stafford, Director Sales in Asia Pacific, said “This year we have seen rapid growth and competition between many innovative solution providers.”

With many strategic alliances being formed right now, new payment methods and even autonomous delivery being explored and an explosion of the sharing economy generally, this event is perfectly timed.”

“Home Delivery is certainly THE hot topic with the likes of our partners at Navman Wireless & Dominos setting the pace and others such as Menulog, Deliveroo, Foodora and most recently Uber Eats going live. Around the APAC region it is a similar story with GrabExpress, Foodpanda, Grubhub, McDonalds and Jollibee.”

Registration is now open at www.homedeliveryexpo.com.au.
