Draft inter-agency data sharing agreement template released

By on 28 April, 2020

Interim National Data Commissioner, Deborah Anton.

The office of the national data commissioner has released a draft template for a data sharing agreement between government agencies.

The new template for data sharing is ‘legislation-agnostic’, in light of a set of sweeping reforms to government data use, which will be contained in the forthcoming Data Availability and Transparency Bill.

Such measures now have greater implications in light of recent launch of the federal government’s COVIDSafe contact tracing app.

An exposure draft of the above legislation was anticipated for the first half of 2020, but has since been delayed by Covid-19 impacts, according to material released by the data commissioner’s office.

The new template is based on the national data commissioner’s best practice principles for agencies sharing data they are responsible for.

Feedback on the draft data sharing agreement template is sought to align a version under the forthcoming draft legislation.
