At Google’s recent I/O event in San Francisco, one of the many announcements included a re-design of Google Maps that includes a Google Earth-like interface – right in your browser window.

A 3D globe interface isn’t the only upgrade, however, with the entire design seeing an overhaul to bring it in-line with the new(ish) Google aesthetic.

The new design will have the map cover your entire browser window, with the required elements, including the search box, floating on top.

The map search engine has also been improved, with results based on your history (Google are claiming that the more you use it, the more relevant the information displayed will be), as well as the ability to compare the different transport methods (including driving vs. public transport, with live traffic) when looking for directions.
