US-based geospatial insurance industry consortium launches in Australia and New Zealand ahead of #Locate19.

The announcement of a regional program will see a range of location intelligence services made available to insurers, with access to a library of geospatial data and aerial imagery.

According to the GIC, access to its service can drastically expedite claims processing costs, enable remote post-disaster property assessments and give insight into property risks with current, remotely accessible data.

“After seeing tremendous success in the United States, we are thrilled to bring this innovative approach to underwriting, disaster response, and claims management to insurers across Australia,” said Ryan Bank, managing director of the Geospatial Intelligence Centre.

“The GIC was forged during the costliest disasters in recent years. Using a combination of technology, a strong network of aviation flyers and the highest quality imagery in the world, we are setting out to transform the way insurers manage and expedite everyday claims and respond to disasters – helping everyday people live better lives.”

The GIC will offer access to high resolution imagery in the 12 largest metropolitan areas in Australia and New Zealand, totalling 23,000 square kilometres. 45-degree oblique imagery will be available as part of the archive, courtesy of Vexcel UltraCam aerial imagery technology and UltraMap processing software.
