The Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the UK-based Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), with the aim of advancing geospatial standards and fostering professional excellence on a global scale.
The two bodies say the collaboration will be significant step towards harmonising certification standards for engineering surveyors, facilitating mutual recognition between the UK and Australia.
Importantly, the MoU also underscores a commitment to promoting best practices in competency standards, ensuring that members of both organisations benefit from shared knowledge and experiences.
“We are excited to partner with CICES in this strategic endeavour to elevate geospatial standards globally. This collaboration underscores our commitment to fostering innovation, sharing knowledge, and promoting excellence within the industry,” said Tony Wheeler, CEO of GCA.
Key elements of the MoU include:
- identifying and disseminating best practices;
- promoting standardisation to enhance collective value; and
- supporting joint participation in industry events.
The GCA and CICES will also collaborate on projects aimed at raising awareness of the engineering surveying profession and providing enhanced professional development opportunities.
The two bodies also point out that the MoU aligns with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, by leveraging geospatial information to address global challenges effectively.
