Federal election mapped online

By on 23 August, 2010

An interactive map of how Australians voted in the 2010 federal elections is available online.

The ABC news map takes dry results data from the Australian Electoral Commission and displays it in a more accessible form for users.
One of the map’s creators, Antony Green, wrote in a blog posting:

“The map works like most Google interactive maps with the zoom strip in the top left, and the ability to grab and move the map by holding down the mouse pointer.”

If a user hovers over an electorate, an information box appears with the name of the electorate, which party holds it, the name of the sitting MP and the margin.

Clicking on an electorate reveals detailed voting data, history and trivia about the seat, past voting results and information on the successful and unsuccessful candidates.
