
Curtin University’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences recently held its annual awards presentation, at which worthy students and academics were recognised for their work and personal efforts.
The awards covered many aspects of geological and geospatial sciences; the following is a list of the recipients within the geospatial sphere:
C.R. Kennedy & Co Pty Ltd Surveying Prize — awarded to the best first-year student in the Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) program. Winner: Blake Botica
C.R. Kennedy & Co Pty Ltd Laser Scanning Prize — awarded to the best overall student in laser scanning within the integrated surveying area. Winner: Joshua Bell
Geospatial Council of Australia, The D.B. Johnston Award — awarded to the best overall doctoral student in the discipline of spatial sciences. Winner: Dr Roula Zougheibe
The RM Surveys Award — awarded to the best second-year student in the Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) program. Winner: James Piesse
Veris Surveying Student Award — awarded to the best third-year student in the Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) program. Winner: Jacob Matteo
Veris Spatial Information Services Prize — awarded to the best student in the field of cartography and mapping. Winner: Rughard Steenkamp
ADAM Technology Pty Ltd Prize — awarded to the best student in the area of digital photogrammetry. Winner: Robert Kither
Fugro Geospatial Award — awarded to the mine and engineering surveying student who obtains the highest aggregated marks in the subjects of plane and construction surveying and survey computations. Winner: Blake Botica
Fugro Hydrographic Award — awarded to the overall best student undertaking hydrographic surveying. Winner: James Mackie

Fugro Women’s Award for Excellence in the School of Earth & Planetary Sciences — awarded to an outstanding graduating female student in the Disciple of Spatial Sciences, School of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Winner: Leidy Luna Cabeza
Geospatial Council of Australia, The Tony Pivac Prize — awarded to the Dux of the Bachelor of Science (Mine and Engineering Surveying) course. Winner: Benjamin Dewar
Woolpert Geospatial Prize — recognising outstanding work in the spatial community. Winner: Ainslea Kipling

The Will Featherstone Memorial Prize for Applied Field Surveying — awarded to the best student within the area of applied field surveying. Winner: Dominic Abalos
Hexagon Prize — awarded to the student submitting the best final year project within digital image interpretation. Winner: Kelzang Dema
Hexagon Digital Award — awarded to the student submitting the best innovative project or piece of work in the field of digital realities. Winner: Pratchaya Takaew
LandSurveys’ Surveying Prize — awarded to the student submitting the best final year project or honours dissertation in the Bachelor of Surveying Honours program. Winner: Andrew Meumann
The IntelliSpatial Award — awarded to the student submitting the best final year project utilising new, high precision geospatial data and capture technologies. Winner: Ben Bayley
Geospatial Council of Australia, The John Forrest Prize — awarded for continuous outstanding work within the Bachelor of Surveying Honours program. Winner: Ella Bougourd

The Lawry White Medallion (donated by the White Family) — awarded to the dux of the Bachelor of Surveying Honours Program. Winner: Dempsey May
The Western Australian Institution of Surveyors — awarded to the best student in the areas of survey law and project management. Winner: Jacob Matteo
The Western Australian Institution of Surveyors Award for Excellence — awarded to the best student in the geospatial intelligence programs. Winner: Wai Kit Lau
The Survey Computations Award (donated by Mr John Walker) — awarded to the best overall first year student within the survey computations unit. Winner: Blake Botica
The Ultimate Positioning Group, Mine Surveying Award — awarded to the student submitting the best mine surveying project. Winner: Travis Parkes
The Ultimate Positioning Group, Geospatial Prize — awarded to the overall best student performance for calculus units within the Bachelor of Surveying Honours program. Winner: James Piesse
The MNG Surveying Scholarship 2024 — awarded to the outstanding full-time student in the Bachelor of Surveying Honours program who has a special interest in an area of digital mapping or cadastral surveying. Recipient: Rughard Steenkamp
The MNG Women in Surveying Scholarship 2024 — awarded to an outstanding full- time female student within the Bachelor of Surveying Honours program who has a special interest in an area of digital mapping or cadastral surveying. Joint recipients: Greta Lauritsen and Emma Gibson
The Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors Scholarship 2024 — awarded by AIMS in conjunction with Curtin University to support a student within the Bachelor of Science (Mine and Engineering Surveying), who has demonstrated academic merit and wishes to pursue a career in the field of mine and engineering surveying. Recipient: Blake Botica
MMA Offshore Hydrographic Surveying Scholarship 2024 — developed by MMA Offshore Ltd in conjunction with Curtin University to support a Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) student in their final year of study where the student may wish to pursue a career in the hydrographic surveying field. Recipient: Merrick Coxall
