FIG Working Week 2017 @ Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre (HECC) | Helsinki | Etelä-Suomi | Finland

FIG Working Week, 29 May –  2 June 2017, Helsinki, Finland, is an exciting week-long conference that brings the international community of surveying and spatial professionals together to experience a mix of interesting plenary and technical sessions and workshops, a trade exhibition and a variety of side events and social functions.

The week gives a unique opportunity to discuss key challenges of our time within the surveying profession with fellow peers.

The overall theme of the Working Week is “Surveying the world of tomorrow – From digitalisation to augmented reality”. We have been witnessing the first beginning of a development leading towards services which not only describe the visible world around us but also simultaneously bring up other information connected to our place of interest.

One step is to become digitalized and to use the digital information; the next step is to combine information and be able to collect the data intelligently and to take further steps into the intelligent use of digital information. The theme was chosen to highlight the opportunities and open a view into a future where the  large amount of information we produce is, again, put into a more efficient use.

ISPRS Hannover Workshop @ Institut für Photogrammetrie und GeoInformation, Leibniz Universität Hannover | Hannover | Niedersachsen | Germany

Sensor calibration, image orientation, object extraction and scene understanding from images and image sequences are important research topics in Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Computer Vision and Geoinformation Science. In these tasks, geometry and semantics both play an important role, and high quality results require proper handling of all these aspects. While individual algorithms differ according to the imaging geometry and the employed sensors and platforms, all mentioned aspects need to be integrated in a proper workflow to solve most real-world problems.

This observation has led to launching a common event for a number of well-established scientific meetings under the roof of the ISPRS Hannover Workshop. While HRIGI and EuroCOW are more on the geometric side, CMRT and ISA have a legacy in automatic object reconstruction and trajectory computation.

Drones and Big Spatial data - Challenges and Opportunities @ McDonald Room, RG Menzies Library, The Australian National University, 2 McDonald Place, Acton ACT 2601 | Canberra | Australian Capital Territory | Australia

The Australian National Data Service (ANDS) is facilitating a one day seminar/workshop of interest to the drone and spatial data research community.

The use of spatial data and drones is rapidly increasing across academia and research resulting in the generation of high-resolution geospatial information. The deployment of these advanced technologies not only provide greater opportunities and enable innovation in research but also present equal challenges in data management, technological & computing capabilities, sensitivities and other ethical issues.

The Australian National Data Service (ANDS), a federally funded NCRIS facility, is facilitating a workshop on drones and big spatial data which aims to bring together researchers and data specialists from various disciplines and agencies to showcase their expertise, knowledge and information exchange. This workshop consists of presentations, multiple hands-on tutorials, and also provides the participants with an opportunity for networking with leading spatial data experts.

There is no cost to register for this event but registration is essential for catering if you are attending the full day program. There is also an option available to choose either to attend morning seminar or afternoon hands-on session only.
