Australian Government departments and private sector organisations are now contemplating their game plan for the migration of GDA94 to GDA2020. This data implementation is important for organisations that want to take advantage of having sub-decimetre coordinate accuracy when capturing high accuracy data.

The International Cartographic Association (ICA) Commission on Atlases, the ICA Commission on Map Design, the Joint ICA-IGU Commission on Toponymy, the National Geographic Institute of Spain (IGN) and the Spanish Society for Cartography, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (SECFT) will jointly host a conference on atlases, toponymy and map design in Madrid.
During six sessions of four presentations each, questions concerning evolving dissemination concepts and techniques for atlases, recent development and examples of national atlases as well as important map design and toponomastic issues in atlas production will be discussed.
The theme of the event will be ‘Atlases in time’. Presentations will be held in a 20-minute format of 15 minutes presenting and 5 minutes discussion.
The International Cartographic Association (ICA) invites you to share your research, practice and experiences in cartography and GIScience at the 31st International Cartographic Conference (ICC 2023), to be held from 13 to 18 August 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa.
The conference theme will be ‘Smart Cartography for Sustainable Development’.

The Institute of Navigation’s (ION) Pacific PNT Conference is a global event dedicated to the cooperative development of positioning, navigation and timing technology and applications.

The 9th International Conference on Cartography and GIS will take place in Nessebar, Bulgaria from 16 to 21 June 2024. The ICCGIS is a biannual conference that began in 2006 and has been held every two years since (except for 2020). In total, the Conference has attracted attendees from more than 60 countries and has published more than 700 scientific papers in its proceedings.
The aim of the conference is to collect knowledge and share experiences about the latest achievements in the field of cartography and GIS. Multiple parallel events will take place during the conference, including annual meetings of ICA commissions and a special ISDE plenary session. There will also be a Seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction – Solutions and Innovations.
The third International Association of Geodesy (IAG) Commission 4 Symposium will bring together scientists, researchers and professionals working in the broad field of positioning and its applications.
The symposium will serve as a platform for discussing research that leverages current and emerging positioning techniques and technologies. It aims to provide both practical and theoretical solutions across a wide range of topics.
Discussions will address both technical and institutional aspects of developing GNSS backup systems, integrated positioning solutions, resilient PNT systems, and emerging LEO-based PNT techniques. The symposium will also explore space weather monitoring and forecasting through both ground-based and space-based geodetic observations. Additionally, the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in geodesy will be examined.
The main topics to be covered include:
- Multi-frequency and multi-constellation GNSS technique
- Terrestrial and satellite-based positioning system development
- Multi-sensor fusion navigation and integrity monitoring
- Emerging positioning technologies, e.g., resilient PNT and LEO-based PNT

- Applications of geodesy to engineering
- Artificial Intelligence technique for geodesy research
The international PNT 2026 conference will be held at Royal Randwick racecourse in Sydney from 4 to 6 February, 2026. The premier Australasian event dedicated to positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) technologies and research, it is being led by the newly established PNT Sub-Committee of the Australian Institute of Navigation (AIN).
Building on the legacy of the IGNSS conference series, the conference is expected to attract many hundreds of PNT experts from around the world, who will gather to learn about research, policy and applications spanning GNSS, autonomy, resilience, and the next generation of multi-GNSS infrastructure.
Keynote speakers included Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, Chief of Joint Capabilities within the Australian Defence Force, and Professor Zak Kassas, the TRC Endowed Chair in Intelligent Transportation Systems at The Ohio State University.

The ‘What’s next for Pozi: Meet the team leading the way’ webinar will bring current and potential users up to date with Pozi’s new team and its vision for what’s next.
The webinar will outline the Pozi product roadmap and where its heading and will include a ‘guided tour’ of Site Manager, a new self-service admin tool that enables GIS administrators to manage users, build custom maps, and configure data sources from one place.

The Geoscience Australia Distinguished Lecture, “Putting the ‘Geo’ into Geospatial: Shaping the future of Positioning Australia,” will cover future direction of the program, reflecting on its past achievements and how it will meet future positioning demands.
As it moves beyond the establishment phase, the Positioning Australia program will strengthen its capability for continued future relevance. The program builds on opportunities arising from Australia’s geographic location, its technological capabilities, strong partnerships and internationally significant positioning infrastructure.
The adoption of PNT-based technologies is changing requirements for the systems delivering it. There is increasing awareness that society’s increasing reliance on modern technologies brings potential risks from vulnerabilities in PNT systems. This lecture will highlight how Positioning Australia will address these issues, including an often invisible risk: the reliance of PNT systems on a global geodesy supply chain that is increasing vulnerable.
Presented by Dr Martine Woolf, (Branch Head Positioning Australia), Ryan Ruddick (Director GNSS Informatics and infrastructure), Dr Anna Riddell (Director GNSS Analysis), Dr Lisa Hall (Director National Geodesy) and Phil Shears (Director PMO), the lecture will outline how Geoscience Australia aims to continue maximising return on Commonwealth investment in reliable positioning, modernising infrastructure, enhancing access and efficiency, and supporting national resilience and economic growth.
