Ecocity World Summit @ Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre
Jul 12 – Jul 14 all-day
Ecocity World Summit @ Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre | South Wharf | Victoria | Australia

How do cities become resilient, and how do you measure it? What are the hidden costs of cheap buildings? Can we increase density without losing green space? Can we grow food on rooftops? And what can cities and sub-national governments do when national governments don’t want a piece of the climate action? All this and more are on the agenda of the Ecocity World Summit in Melbourne this July.

“In Australia, we’ve just come through Cyclone Debbie, and seen severe storms and flooding across the Eastern states,” says Brendan Gleeson, Director of Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute and Summit co-convenor.

“We urgently need to safeguard our cities, towns and their people, in Australia and across the planet. The Ecocity World Summit program is designed to bring leading thinkers, researchers and practitioners together to share the evidence, strategies and tools we need to keep our cities liveable and sustainable in the face of global challenges.”

The Ecocity World Summit brings leading international thinkers to Australia to share their expertise, including:

  • Mr Mark Twidell, Managing Director, Tesla (Asia-Pacific)
  • Dr Debra Roberts: Climate Change Adviser to ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability (South Africa)
  • Mr Aromar Revi: Director, Indian Institute for Human Settlements
  • Mr Rachmat Whitoelar: Indonesian President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change
  • Prof Harriet Bulkeley: Professor of Geography, Durham University (UK)
  • The Hon Al Gore: Former US Vice President and Chair of The Climate Reality Project

The program includes three streams—Urban Leadership, Academic, and City Practices—tailoring sessions and workshops to the interests of people from government, university, business and community sectors.

EARTHVISION 2017 @ Hawaii Convention Center
Jul 21 all-day
EARTHVISION 2017 @ Hawaii Convention Center | Honolulu | Hawaii | United States

Earth Observation (EO)/Remote Sensing (RS) is an ever-growing field of investigation where computer vision, machine learning, and signal/image processing meet. The general objective is to provide large-scale, homogeneous information about processes occurring at the surface of the Earth exploiting data collected by airborne and spaceborne sensors. Earth Observation implies the need for multiple inference tasks, ranging from detection to registration, data mining, multi-sensor, multi-resolution, multi-temporal, and multi-modality fusion, to name just a few. It comprises ample applications like location-based services, online mapping services, large-scale surveillance, 3D urban modelling, navigation systems, natural hazard forecast and response, climate change monitoring, virtual habitat modelling, etc. The shear amount of data needs highly automated workflows.

This workshop, held at the CVPR 2017 conference, aims at fostering collaboration between the computer vision and Earth Observation communities to boost automated interpretation of EO data and to raise awareness inside the vision community for this highly challenging and quickly evolving field of research with a big impact on human society, economy, industry, and the planet.

The event is jointly organised by the Image Analysis and Data Fusion Technical Committee  of the IEEE-GRSS  and by the ISPRS Commission II “Photogrammetry”  and is sponsored by IEEE-GRSS.

Submissions are invited from all areas of computer vision and image analysis relevant for, or applied to, environmental remote sensing. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Super-resolution in the spectral and spatial domain
  • Hyperspectral and ultra-spectral image processing
  • 3D reconstruction from aerial and satellite images
  • Feature extraction and learning
  • Semantic classification of UAV / aerial and satellite images and videos
  • Deep learning tailored for Earth observation
  • Domain adaptation and concept drift
  • Human-in-the-loop
  • Multi-resolution, multi-temporal, multi-sensor, multi-modal processing
  • Public benchmark data sets: training data standards, testing & evaluation metrics, and open source research and development.

All manuscripts will be subject to a double-blind review process. Accepted EARTHVISION papers will be included in the USB proceedings of CVPR and submitted to IEEE for possible publication in IEEE Xplore. Publication in IEEE Xplore will be granted only if the paper meets IEEE publicaiton policies and procedures.
