Kelso Cartography has an interesting map displaying the number of years of intensive agriculture seen in each place around the Earth. An interesting view of the way that humans have transformed the Earth during the anthropocene.
 
The Sydney Morning Herald has a story on a Canberra amateur UAV team winning $10,000 for successfully locating a dummy ‘lost’ bushwalker, using a fully automated UAV system. UAVs are definitely growing up.
 
Apple Insider has a post that, within amongst all the backlash against iOS6’s mapping application, the app is actually being praised in China, as an improvement to to the previous Google Maps app.
 
If you’re keen to start using ArcGIS, but a little less keen to use their backward (and, frankly, non-consumer friendly) ‘credits’ system, you may find some solace in this ArcGIS Online service credits estimator, pointed out by Jithen (J) Singh.
 
LiDAR News have a video from Ball on its Total Sight Flash LiDAR system, which shows of real-time 3D data generated from point clouds. You can actually view your data, in 3D, as you fly.
 
Directions Magazine have a post talking to Nokia about its recent agreement with Oracle, which, according to the press release, will to provide a “simple, built-in link between Oracle Fusion Middleware MapViewer and the Nokia Location Platform (NLP). This link removes the barrier of a customised map integration and extends the benefits of global maps for business use to Oracle users.”
