New Jersey Geographer has a post outlining some of the live mapping resources available for the Hurricane Sandy frankenstorm that’s currently destroying the East Coast of the US.
Some more resources, including a live tweet map of Hurricane Sandy, is available on Google Maps Mania.

The Google Lat Long blog has a post that outlines a new app released for the latest version (v4.2) of the Android mobile operating system from Google that allows anyone to capture 360 degree panoramas, and upload them to be viewed by the world in Google Maps.
 
LiDAR News points us to a recent article in the EE Times that talks of a new sensor that combines a camera, LiDAR, and analysis unit into a single package for use in driver assist systems. “I can imagine this technology being mandated, much like the airbag. This is the consumer app for LiDAR.”
 
Google Maps Mania has a post that looks at the new look base map available in the Google Maps API.

The same blog also points us to a Huffington Post story that talks of researchers using Google Maps to reveal some previously unseen canals at the World Heritage Angkor Wat temple site in Cambodia. The canals are likely to have been used to transport the 5-10 million sandstone blocks used in the construction of the temples – the method of transport of these blocks had previously been a mystery.
