
Ms Helen Owens has been appointed to the position of General Manager, Office of Spatial Policy. Helen is joining OSP from the Department of Defence and will commence in mid January.
Helen Owens is graduate of Monash University with a Bachelor of Business. Helen joined the Department of Defence in 2004 as the Director of Human Resource Management for the Defence Signals Directorate. Helen is a business specialist with significant private and public sector experience in strategic and business planning, human resource management and corporate services.
In September 2008, Helen transferred to the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation to take up the role of Director, People Strategies, and was subsequently appointed as the Director of the Office of the Capability Coordinator – Geospatial Information in May 2009.
The principal role of the Office of the CC-GI is to coordinate the generation and sustainment of geospatial information and services (GI&S) across the defence portfolio in order to meet the GI&S needs of the war fighter and defence decision makers.
In this role she has been responsible for strategic geospatial capability planning and leading the development of Defence concepts, policy and doctrine to underpin GI&S as a critical enabler of Defence capability on behalf of Deputy Secretary Intelligence and Security.
The acting general manager of OSP, John Weaver, will continue to act in the position until Helen commences in mid-January, and looks forward to her arrival.
