At the recent 34th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing, held in Bali, Indonesia, UNSW Professor Bruce Forster was awarded the Chen Shupeng Award.

This prestigious award – awarded for long and outstanding contributions to the development of remote sensing in Asia – commemorates the life of Professor Chen, who was one of the founding fathers of remote sensing education and research in China. It is given by the Chinese National Committee on Remote Sensing and the Asian Association on Remote Sensing.

Australia is the only non-Asian member country of the Asian Association, being listed as a “Near Asian Country” – a change to membership instigated by Professor Forster in 1991.

Professor Forster is a Visiting Professorial Fellow, Surveying and Geospatial Engineering, in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a former Professor and Director of the Centre for Remote Sensing and GIS at UNSW.
