The Women in GIS (WiGIS) organisation has announced that applications are now open for the 2026 awards and scholarships program.

For this year, awards will be given to three individuals working in the geospatial sector, and six scholarships will also be made available.

The scholarships are intended to help undergraduate and graduate students cover educational expenses, as well as act as seed grants to support professionals and academics to pursue projects and research across a range of geospatial subjects.

The three awards are the:

  • Distinguished Contribution Award
  • Young Professional Award
  • WiGIS Service Award

Two scholarships will be awarded in each of the following categories:

  • Undergraduate: US$500
  • Graduate: US$1,000
  • Grants for practitioners and academics: US$2,000

Applications are open to women from any country or region, and women from under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Nominees can be self-nominated or nominated by someone else.

Applications will be accepted through to 27 February 2026.
