TomTom maps will drive Uber app

International navigation and mapping company, TomTom, has signed a global, multi-year agreement with Uber to provide maps and traffic data for their Uber driver app. The app is used for its popular private vehicle transportation and taxi service, which uses the mapping system to help users find rides and calculate fare estimates based on the map data. It is also used by drivers to find passengers and navigate.

Now, TomTom’s map-making technology, combined with its comprehensive traffic information system, will be used implemented in Uber’s systems in the aim of achieving has a seamless navigation experience, accurate arrival times and efficient journeys in more than 300 cities around the world.

“We look forward to working with TomTom, a leader in the mapping and navigation space,” said Uber’s head of product partnerships, Matt Wyndowe.  “Their mapping and traffic data will help ensure we continue to provide a great experience for drivers everywhere.”

Uber’s managing director of maps & licensing, Charles Cautley said that “TomTom is a truly independent map provider with the platform for the future. With this platform, TomTom is the trusted partner for innovative and future proof location technology for the global automotive and consumer technology industry.”
