Design technology and services company Redstack will be 3D-printing the new Golden Tripod Award for the Spatial Information Day (SID) in Adelaide, Friday 14 August.

Presented by the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) and Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) in South Australia, Spatial Information Day is the event for surveying, geospatial and mapping professionals. It boasts a range of high-profile presenters and is expected to attract over 400 attendees, concluding with the South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards.

The annual Golden Tripod Award is a new initiative from the South Australian SSSI YP to engage the audience during SID’s breakout sessions. Out on site, one of the first things any surveyor learns is how to set up a tripod centred over a point. The Golden Tripod Award will pit the delegates’ skills at setting up a tripod with an optical tribrach to be levelled and centred over the target against the clock, with the winner being whoever achieves this in the quickest time.

As sponsors of Spatial Information Day, Redstack has offered to 3D print the new Golden Tripod Award on their Ultimaker 2 3D printer, demonstrating the quality and intricacies achievable with the current generation of 3D printers. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the Ultimaker in action at Spatial Information Day, where Redstack will be showcasing its 3D printing capabilities alongside its other 3D scanning, 3D modelling, aerial and UAV services.
