IMIA Asia Pacific Region Conference Brisbane

The International Map Industry Association (AMIA) will hold its Asia Pacific Conference in Brisbane this November. AMIA endorses the International Map Year 2015 – 2016 as proposed by the International Cartographic Association as a valuable means to promote the importance of maps and Geoinformation and seeks this to share this at the over the three days conference being held 15-17 November.

The program features dual keynotes from Professor William Cartwright AM, Professor of Cartography in the School of Mathematical and Geospatial Sciences at RMIT University, Chair of the Executive of the Mapping Sciences Institute, Australia (MSIA) and co-editor of the International Journal of Cartography, as well as Damien Saunder, from ESRI USA,who specialises in designing and building interactive web maps and analysing high performance sports data using GIS. Saunder is on the editorial board of the British Cartographic Journal, serves on the board of directors for IMIA (Americas) and is also co-chair on the Commission of Map Design for the International Cartographic Association (ICA).

Following the conference on 18 November, GIS People will celebrate International GIS Day with a number of events aiming to bring people together from a government, professionals, businesses, uni students and everyone in between.

There event will also coincide with the IMIA AP Map Awards 2015 and a Student Mapping/Geospatial Project Competition.
