Celebrating 25 years: 12d International Conference

In the lead up to the 12d Silver Jubilee Conference 2016, taking place 24- 26 July 2016 in Brisbane, Position spoke to 12d General Manager Joel Gregory about the significance of this exciting event.

2016 marks 25 years since Nirvana released ‘Nevermind’, ‘Terminator 2’ graced cinemas, and Pierre-Gilles de Gennes won a Nobel Prize for Physics.

More importantly for readers of Spatial Source, 1991 also saw the release of surveying, civil and water engineering software 12d Model, then known as 4d Model by Australians Dr Lee Gregory and Alan Gray. 25 years on, 12d Model has become one of—if not the—most commonly used terrain modeling and civil works software for infrastructure projects in Australia and New Zealand, with international uptake spreading into over 65 countries.

12d General Manager Joel Gregory, son of Dr Lee Gregory says “there are a lot of different packages out there, but with 12d model you can everything you need to.”

“12d Model was built specially for the civil engineering and surveying industry with a complete 3D database for all elements such as ground models, centrelines and utilities,” Gregory said. “This foresight dovetails nicely into the big push for BIM which 12d Model has been doing for the last 25 years.”

“The ability to build full 3D models and transfer those models into other software packages has been critical to 12d Model success for the last 25 years and the next 25. We have been at the forefront of full 3D electronic models and the move away from paper drawings since our inception.”

To celebrate, a 12d Silver Jubilee Conference 2016 is being held in Brisbane over three days this July. The 12d International Conference will highlight the possibilities of the newly released 12d Model 12, as well as 12d Synergy version 3. As with last year’s event, there will again be breakout sessions on design, surveying, water and drainage, and 12d Synergy.
