The conference is the Australian Association for Uncrewed Systems’ (AAUS) main event for the year and has established itself as a landmark event for the Australian drone industry, drawing interest from key government personnel, representatives from the regulatory and safety bodies, defence force, RPAS and UTM representatives, end users and academia.

The hybrid event will take place over two days and will include a combination of presentations and interactive panel discussions.

The conference will cover:

RPAS related policy and regulatory updates from Australian and international government agencies.

UAS Traffic Management, low-level airspace and integrated airspace systems

Industry challenges and perspectives

Continuing development of a professional and safe industry.

Emerging technologies and innovative solutions enabling RPAS integration in Australian airspace.

Emerging applications — benefits, viability and social acceptance

Case studies of drone use and challenges in emergency services, infrastructure inspection, delivery, mining, and agriculture.

This is the premier event on the AIMS calendar and should not be missed, especially with more than 20 sponsors in attendance showcasing the latest equipment and technology.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be Peter Baines, OAM, one of Australia’s most effective ‘socialprenuers’. A former police officer, he is the founder of the well-known charity ‘Hands Across the Water,’ and as such has created opportunities for hundreds of children in Thailand.

Peter’s humanitarian efforts have been recognised with significant national and international awards. In January 2014, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his International Humanitarian work. In 2016, he received the Most Admirable Order of Direkgunabhorn awarded by the King of Thailand for his devotional services to the Kingdom of Thailand.

A powerful keynote speaker, Peter’s presentations take his audience from laughter to tears as he recounts his story and delivers the lessons he has learned by managing some of the world’s most devastating crises. His tales of the way in which he has contributed to the lives of many less fortunate people in the world, and the realisation of his personal dream are absolutely inspiring.

Businesses and organisations are encouraged to host an event to spread enthusiasm and help people learn how to use GIS for themselves — in their work, in their schools or where they volunteer.

The event began in 1999, when Esri’s Jack Dangermond, Dr. Roger Tomlinson, and students celebrated the first GIS Day at Murch Elementary School in Washington, DC.

This year’s theme, ‘Mapping Minds, Shaping the World,’ highlights how GIS technology has changed the way we perceive, navigate and shape our world. It shows how combining human creativity with technology helps us discover hidden trends, support sustainable growth, and make smarter decisions using the power of location data.

At the time of writing (mid-October, 2024), around a dozen events were planned across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Organisers can register their events on the event website.
</text>
<dtstart><date>2024-11-20</date></dtstart><dtend><date>2024-11-21</date></dtend><categories><parameters>
<text>en-US</text>
</parameters></categories><contact><text>https://www.gisday.com/en-us/overview</text></contact><sequence><integer>0</integer></sequence>

<x-cost-type><unknown>free</unknown></x-cost-type><x-wp-images-url><unknown>thumbnail;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg?w=175&h=140&crop=1;175;140;1,medium;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg?w=280;280;198;1,large;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg?w=474;474;335;1,full;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg;624;441;</unknown></x-wp-images-url><x-tags><parameters>
<text>en-US</text>
</parameters><unknown>GIS,world event</unknown></x-tags></properties></vevent><vevent><properties><uid><text>ai1ec-39502@www.spatialsource.com.au</text></uid><dtstamp><date-time>2026-06-11T03:41:56Z</date-time></dtstamp>
<text>SA Geospatial Excellence Awards</text>

<text>

The Geospatial Council of Australia invites industry members to participate in the special South Australian Geospatial Excellence Awards reception on Friday, 27 October 2023, in the Riverbank Rooms at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

This conference is where Australia’s utility, construction and geospatial sectors come together to share knowledge, challenge old ways of working, and explore new ideas that make the industry safer and smarter.

On show will be BYDA’s Digital Utility Portal, which is moving from proof-of-concept into the next phase of development. The portal is showing how digital data sharing can dramatically reduce manual rework, improve accuracy, and give planners and engineers the real-time insight they need to prevent strikes.

The event is designed for public administration technicians, urban planners and professionals interested in leveraging satellite data for land-use planning.

In the webinar, IPTSAT experts will demonstrate how to access Copernicus data and apply it to urban planning. Participants will learn how to

Access satellite data from the Copernicus program

Find and download Sentinel imagery

Explore data using online tools

Integrate satellite data into GIS software

Use data for environmental and urban analysis

Tools to be featured include the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem, the Copernicus Browser, and QGIS integration via openEO (including short practical demonstrations on how to get started).

Real-world examples of satellite data for urban monitoring will be explored, such as urban heat islands; urban greenery distribution and health monitoring; land consumption, tracking soil sealing and urban growth; and water quality monitoring.
