Businesses and organisations are encouraged to host an event to spread enthusiasm and help people learn how to use GIS for themselves — in their work, in their schools or where they volunteer.

The event began in 1999, when Esri’s Jack Dangermond, Dr. Roger Tomlinson, and students celebrated the first GIS Day at Murch Elementary School in Washington, DC.

This year’s theme, ‘Mapping Minds, Shaping the World,’ highlights how GIS technology has changed the way we perceive, navigate and shape our world. It shows how combining human creativity with technology helps us discover hidden trends, support sustainable growth, and make smarter decisions using the power of location data.

At the time of writing (mid-October, 2024), around a dozen events were planned across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Organisers can register their events on the event website.
</text>
<dtstart><date>2024-11-20</date></dtstart><dtend><date>2024-11-21</date></dtend><categories><parameters>
<text>en-US</text>
</parameters></categories><contact><text>https://www.gisday.com/en-us/overview</text></contact><sequence><integer>0</integer></sequence>
<x-cost-type><unknown>free</unknown></x-cost-type><x-wp-images-url><unknown>thumbnail;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg?w=175&h=140&crop=1;175;140;1,medium;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg?w=280;280;198;1,large;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg?w=474;474;335;1,full;https://www.spatialsource.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/GIS-Day-2024.jpg;624;441;</unknown></x-wp-images-url><x-tags><parameters>
<text>en-US</text>
</parameters><unknown>GIS,world event</unknown></x-tags></properties></vevent><vevent><properties><uid><text>ai1ec-36568@www.spatialsource.com.au</text></uid><dtstamp><date-time>2026-07-12T12:53:19Z</date-time></dtstamp>
<text>31st International Cartographic Conference and 19th General Assembly</text>

<text>

The International Cartographic Association (ICA) invites you to share your research, practice and experiences in cartography and GIScience at the 31st International Cartographic Conference (ICC 2023), to be held from 13 to 18 August 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa.
