Chris Malouf commenced as the new general manager of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) on 20 July 2015, replacing former CEO Roger Buckley.

In addition to promoting the benefits and achievements of surveying and spatial science professionals across Australia, Malouf will be responsible for developing and achieving the SSSI strategic plan in conjunction with the Board, building the reputation and profile of SSSI within the surveying and spatial sciences professions, managing the external and internal operations of the SSSI, and providing high level advice to the Board on governance issues.

Chris brings to SSSI a strong background in strategic planning, program management and performance assessment. He comes to the SSSI from CSIRO, where he worked in a broad range of different roles including program coordinator for the Australian Collaborative Land Evaluation Program (ACLEP), executive officer in CSIRO Land and Water, and program manager in the Water for a Healthy Country National Research Flagship. Most recently, he was in the joint role of strategic adviser and business development manager in CSIRO Plant Industry.

Other previous roles have included GIS manager in the former Australian Geological Survey Organisation (now Geosciences Australia) and GIS officer at the National Resource Information Centre within the former Bureau of Resource Sciences.

Chris holds undergraduate and Masters level degrees in natural resource management from the Canberra CAE/University of Canberra. In the latter, he explored the application of thermal remote sensing technologies for assisting irrigation scheduling in the Australian cotton industry. He also holds an MBA (Technology Management) from LaTrobe University.

Malouf has indicated that he looks forward to getting around the country and meeting a lot of new faces in the surveying and spatial sciences industries and becoming reacquainted with some old friends.
