New editor for Spatial Source and Position

Position Magazine and Spatial Source are pleased to announce the appointment of their new editor, Anthony Wallace, who will take over from Charles Pauka.

Charles Pauka welcomes the new appointment, saying: “The magazine has become the leading reference and information source for the surveying and spatial industry, and I am happy to hand it over to a qualified, resourceful industry professional to take it to the next level.”

“Anthony has been working with me on the magazine and website for some time now and is well qualified to look after both,” Charles said.

Charles will continue his editorial work with other publications he oversees with Position and Spatial Source parent publisher The Intermedia Group. His involvement with Position and Spatial Source will continue for some time during the start of 2016, until Anthony Wallace assumes full responsibility.

The change will see Anthony transition into full time duties in the role, allowing him to apply more time to quality editorial content and attend more industry events. Anthony has been employed as the dedicated in-house journalist for Position magazine and Spatial Source since April 2015.

In officially assuming the role of editor as of January 2016, Anthony noted: “I couldn’t be more pleased to be granted the opportunity of becoming the editor of such a respectable and important suite of publications.

“The subject matter that Position and Spatial Source cover is closely aligned to my personal interests and professional experience, and I feel the role of media in this field is a very important one,” he said. “I feel blessed to be given this opportunity and look forward to increasing my involvement in this exciting industry.”

Anthony has skills in both spatial information and media, having completed both a Bachelor of Engineering (Surveying and Spatial Information Systems) through the University of New South Wales, as well as a Master of Arts (Writing) through Swinburne University.

During his engineering studies, Anthony engaged in private surveying and geospatial practice and also completed a study abroad program at Sweden’s Royal Institute of Technology. Here, alongside PhD students, he programmed a GPS receiver from the ground up. In writing his final year thesis, ‘Development Strategies for Sustainable Growth’, Anthony discovered a love for writing and couldn’t help writing well over the prescribed limit. Anthony graduated with first class honours, was nominated in the NSW Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information awards for his thesis and presented at the ISNSW Australia Day Seminar in 2011.

A return to studies saw Anthony pursue his passion for words and technology by completing a Master of Arts through Open Universities Australia. During studies he learned practical media industry knowledge in casual roles as a music reviewer, copywriter, interviewer, content creator and social media strategist. Anthony was also employed as a communications officer/digital content manager at The Institution of Surveyors NSW, where he had a heavy involvement in Azimuth magazine and a number of digital initiatives.
