Topcon Positioning Group has announced two new software platforms designed to provide multi-disciplinary model management and increased collaboration and integration. The newly released MAGNET VDC solutions, which include MAGNET Explorer and MAGNET Modeller, further expand the MAGNET workplace portfolio for design, collaboration, surveying, BIM and 3D visualisation.

Matt Levick, Product Manager for site software solutions for Topcon’s Australian distributor Position Partners, explains that “MAGNET VDC gives key stakeholders the ability to visualise every stage and the associated costs of a major project and its many components such as roads, rail, temporary works, structures, bridges, drainage systems, electrical services, landscaping and noise reduction.”

“This powerful software enables engineers, commercial managers, architects, project managers, design managers, foreman and supervisors to all see the big picture, identifying any problems sooner and therefore saving costs and reducing rework,” he added. “It combines all the proposed plans and existing infrastructure into a single 5D model.”

MAGNET Explorer offers model management, simulation and design analysis for construction projects where multiple design disciplines need to function as one.

Topcon’s Vice President of Global Product Management, Jason Hallett added that “With MAGNET Explorer, infrastructure, buildings, utilities and structural models can be combined together and analysed in one single project model.”

“All of the data is managed in design coordinates and units as required by professional design simulation and analysis.”

The software enables value-based clash detection for VDC (Virtual Design to Construction). MAGNET Explorer also has connectivity with MAGNET Enterprise, enabling data sharing and collaboration with the complete suite of MAGNET solutions.

MAGNET Modeller is designed to produce blended models from a wide-variety of sources, making traditionally time consuming tasks more automatic.

MAGNET Modeller has been made to integrate existing tools such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Map3D and also open data models such as LandXML and IFC.
