The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (NZIS) recently announced that Andrew J Stirling has taken over as President of the Institute from 24 November 2011. The post has been held for the last two years by Mark Dyer of Rotorua.
Andrew has been a member of the Institute since 1989 and has been a Registered Professional Surveyor for 22 years. He is well placed to carry out his presidency with previous experience gained as an Auckland Branch executive and as a NZIS Council member for the past four years.
Andrew currently resides in the North Shore, Auckland with his wife Jill and two teenage children. He is a director of Axis Survey Consultants in Auckland.
Andrew is looking forward to an exciting time taking the Institute in a new strategic direction over the next two years. NZIS has strong roots that go back 123 years into the history of New Zealand. In that time the members of this organisation have contributed immensely to wealth creation through the construction, resource management, subdivision and land development and mapping processes.
Much has changed in that time and now we face the emergence of the digital society where spatial information is cheap, accessible and has a vast array of applications not previously considered.
NZIS intends to maintain its leadership in traditional areas but reach out to other disciplines involved with spatial information and grow the organisation to provide leadership in all aspects of surveying and spatial science.
