Hannover Fairs Australia and the Office of Spatial Policy will stage the third spatial@gov Conference and Exhibition in Canberra from 15 to 17 November 2011.
The Conference will explore the increasingly important influence that Geospatial information and technologies have across government activities, enhancing the ability to provide the right services to the right people at the right time and in the right place. The Conference will also show how government is collaborating with industry to deliver these services.
The 2011 spatial@gov Conference program will include presentations that demonstrate how integral geospatial capabilities are to disaster management, defence operations and water security, and facilitate greater access to public sector information. spatial@gov will feature an impressive line-up of global and local industry experts who will share their experience and case studies.
spatial@gov Conference themes include:
- Access to Government Spatial Information - This theme will examine examples of how the spatial communities within government are increasing accessibility to their information. Keynote speakers presenting under this theme includes Senator the Hon Kate Lundy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator for the Australian Capital Territory; Drew Clarke, Secretary of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, and Professor John McMillan AO, Australian Information Commissioner.
- Water Security - This theme will focus on the environmental intelligence gains that are being made under this ambitious $12.9 billion Water for the Future program and will feature an expert panel of speakers including Fraser McLeod, Executive Director, Basin Plan, Murray–Darling Basin Authority and representatives from the National Water Commission, CSIRO, the Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, the Department of Sustainability and Environment (Victoria) and the Australian National University.
- Emergency Response - This theme will examine some recent events including the natural disasters in Australia and New Zealand, and review how location-based capabilities have been applied by governments to respond to these emergencies. Craig Armitage, Land Information New Zealand, Steve Jacoby, Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water (Queensland), and John Moore, Emergency Information Coordination Unit (New South Wales) will lend their expertise and recent experience to this theme.
spatial@gov Conference and Exhibition is the only geospatial event organised in conjunction with the peak organisations in Australia and New Zealand representing the public, private, research and professional sectors of the spatial community.
